St. Petersburg & Clearwater – The ideal winter home for Canadian snowbirds!
Clearwater, a barrier island located across the causeway from Tampa Airport, is known for its white sand beaches, family friendly resorts, condos and restaurants. It has also been home to Canadian snowbirds for decades.
Baseball fans can watch spring training games at Bright House Field, where the Philadelphia Phillies are the home team in the winter. Dunedin, home to the Toronto Blue Jays, is a short drive from Clearwater.
Although the white powder sand beaches are the main attraction, visitors can also visit the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the historic Capitol Theatre and Ruth Eckerd Hall which features a program each winter of a wide range of concerts and dance.
Neighbouring “St. Pete’s”, as it is commonly known, was founded in the late 19th century when the railroad come to town. It later became a U.S. military hub. Today, St. Pete’s has a thriving arts community and a revived downtown featuring new restaurants, galleries and boutiques.
Snowbirds flock to St. Pete’s, which enjoys the same white powder sandy beaches as Clearwater.
Major attractions include the Dali Museum and the Dale Chihuly glass collection, and fabulous views of Tampa Bay and the sky bridge can be seen from the Pass-a-Grille historic district, where restaurants feature the must-have Grouper sandwich.
