San Miguel de Allende – The ideal winter home for Canadian snowbirds!

San Miguel’s population swells each winter when thousands of Canadian and American snowbirds arrive in this wonderful colonial city located northeast of Mexico City.

The historic center is best explored on foot and still holds many buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. With its cobblestoned streets, San Miguel de Allende is considered to be the most beautiful town in Mexico. It is generally safe to walk around and enjoys a mild winter climate.

San Miguel is a well known arts center. There is much going on each winter with festivals, studio openings, cultural events, performances, workshops and courses.

In addition to the many arts and cultural programs offered here, some snowbirds also come to learn Spanish. However, you can easily manage with just English in the hotels, grocery stores and restaurants.

As for accommodations, there are apartments, villas and houses to rent, as well as the option to stay in one of the many small local hotels and inns. A number of snowbirds also own vacation properties in San Miguel.
