Getting Here

Flying

Amelia Island is located just 30 minutes from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), which offers convenient service from Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.  And, Air Canada will start operating daily nonstop flights to JAX from Toronto on May 22, 2025 – these flights can be booked now.

Driving

For those driving, the island’s Northeast Florida location affords an easy, scenic route once you cross the Georgia-Florida border and head 20 minutes east from I-95.

Terrain and Landscape

21 kilometers of pristine Atlantic Ocean shoreline are framed by one of the most impressive sand dune systems in Florida. There are several designated paths and walkways that allow you to cross the dunes and easily enjoy a relaxing walk up and down the beach. 

Elsewhere on the island, ancient oak trees adorned with Spanish moss create a captivating and distinctive landscape unique to this part of Florida. The shaded trails beneath these magnificent trees beckon visitors to hike, bike, or simply sit back and soak in the area's natural splendor.

Every day is a great beach day at Main Beach Park. In addition to a relaxing beach that’s perfect for sunbathing and strolling, there’s a skate park, playground and mini-golf course, too.

Fort Clinch State Park is home to canopied roads and trails along with its namesake Civil War-era fort, which offers tours and live soldier reenactments. 

Enjoy a sunset sightseeing cruise or boat tour on the Amelia River. 

When you’re in the mood for history, a visit to American Beach with Coast One Tours will take you on a journey through time to the days of Florida’s first Black beach resort.

Duck Pinz Bowling is a family favorite where you bowl with miniature balls so everyone can play.

There are five championship golf courses on Amelia Island, each with breathtaking scenery, expert designs that weave their through natural landscapes, and world-class golf for players of all levels. 

Little Sandy is a 10-hole short course where you can introduce golf to the next generation of players in your family.

Amelia Island Cookout in October is the foodie event of the season hosted with a stunning oceanfront backdrop at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island.

Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival brings world-class musicians to Amelia Island for this months-long event November - June.

Right Whale Festival is a family favorite that celebrates a return every year of the endangered Atlantic Right Whales in November. Yes, you may even spot a whale as it migrates south for the winter.

Celebrate the holidays in December at Dickens on Centre, a small-town Christmas festival and a true gem in Florida.

Sporting Events

Snowbirds can experience American college football when it comes to Jacksonville on January 2nd for the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. Stay beachside on Amelia Island and you’re only 30 minutes from the action. You’re also where the ACC team traditionally stays.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are the closest NFL team, so you can catch a game during the season. 

ECHL hockey with the Jacksonville Icemen is also nearby for when you need your hockey fix

The historic streets of downtown are lined with eclectic shops, perfect for discovering one-of-a-kind treasures and souvenirs. 

On Sadler Road, you’ll find a variety of retail stores catering to both everyday needs and special indulgences, from large chain department stores to specialty furnishing and gift shops.

The closest cruise port is about 30 minutes away in Jacksonville, Florida. 

Carnival Cruise Lines and Norwegian Cruises service the Caribbean during the winter months if you are looking for an escape from the mainland.

Safety

Amelia Island is a very welcoming destination. There are less than 45,000 residents and the small-town vibe is evident everywhere you go.

Cost of Living

When compared to most Florida destinations, Amelia Island is highly affordable. 

Accommodation during the winter months are typically less than in places like Miami, Tampa and southern Florida.
