Algarve Region – The ideal winter home for Canadian snowbirds!
The Algarve is the most southern part of Portugal on the Mediterranean Sea and attracts a large number of Canadian snowbirds during the winter months.
Picturesque fishing villages built on cliffs overlook beautiful beaches. Coves dot the coastline, along with a huge array of villas, apartments, hotels, bars and restaurants.
The main city is Faro, which has an international airport. Other towns along the coast include Albufeira, Lagos, Portimao and Tavira.
The Mediterranean climate is ideal for snowbirds and the region has excellent infrastructure. It also offers many historical attractions and other things to see and do.
The area is home to a variety of excellent golf courses and is generally very affordable in winter, which is considered its off season.
Canadian snowbirds will find great value here, especially compared with other parts of Europe. Efficiency apartments are inexpensive by North American standards, as are groceries.
